St. Joe’s spring break is less than days away. Spring break will start on March 9th and end the 18th. While some girls plan to hang at home and relax, others are going on once-in-a-lifetime trips.

A recent poll taken at St. Joe shows that 43 students (33 seniors) will travel all the way to Fiji for their spring break to do service for our dear neighbors. Deciding to do service for senior year spring break is something incredible that our girls do every year, a perfect example of the moto “Not I, But We.”

The service that they will be doing includes assisting local farmers by cooking meals for single mothers and children, dune re-stabilization and tree planting in sand dunes, and constructing a piggery. They will be there for nine days; doing all sorts of fun activities like island hopping, zip lining, snorkeling, and much more.

Senior Mary Simon is very excited about her upcoming trip.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity to make an impact on people’s lives all the way across the world.” Mary said.

To prepare, the girls must receive three vaccination shots and take specific medications. While there, they are required to wear conservative clothing, like overalls and loose fitting clothes, in respects to Fiji culture.

However, Fiji is not the only service trip St. Joe is providing.  A second option is going to New Orleans! A recent poll shows 21 girls (eight seniors) will be attending the New Orleans service trip.

The students will be there for a week, working with Habitat for Humanity building houses. They will also take a break from work for fun activities like visiting the French Quarters, sightseeing, and shopping.

Senior Emma Heienickle is traveling to New Orleans.

“I’m so excited to go on our ghost tour, because New Orleans is best known for their ghosts and voodoo!” Emma said.

Many of the seniors will venture out on trips not affiliated with St. Joe and travel to places like Cancun, Riviera Maya and Puerto Morales. According to a recent survey, about 40 girls will travel there for their spring break. They will be there for three to four days, enjoying the sun and beach.

Senior Bella Verhulst  is looking forward to her trip to Mexico.

“I’ll be at the Now Jade Resort in Puerto Morales,” Bella said. “I can’t wait to be in the nice, warm weather with all my friends while eating Mexican food.”

Lastly, there are a few girls staying home for their break. These girls plan to spend a relaxing break with little expectations other than watching Netflix and eating.

Senior Kalie Littlefield cannot wait for her break and to go out of town.

“Spring break is a great way to have fun with all your friends and take a short vacation!” Kalie said.
