Out of the seven winter sports teams that St. Joseph’s Academy has to offer, two of them are racquetball teams. These two Junior Varsity racquetball teams have been practicing tirelessly throughout the season. The Junior Varsity first team comprises Seniors Ellie Baldanza, Lucy Guinta, Emerie Krueger, Kate Schmidt, Grace Theissen, and Junior Libby West. Their season is off to an interesting start with one tie and one loss. Despite the lack of wins, however, they still hold high spirits and maintain sportsmanship due to the core values St. Joe student athletes hold close.

Senior first-team racquetball player Kate Schmidt has found an unexpected passion in racquetball.

“Racquetball is life,” Kate said.

The Junior Varsity second team roster includes Juniors Abby Moriarty, and Nora Weisharr, and sophomores Hudson Backsmeyer, Annabel Gainey, Lily Kaller, and Evelyn Muir. Having played five games so far this season, these girls have had more chances to win than the first team. So far, their record consists of two wins and three losses.

SJA racquetball Angels Lily Kaller (’26), Grace Theissen (’24), and Evelyn Muir (’26) about to hit the courts for the Winter Classic!

Junior second-team racquetball player Hudson Backsmeyer is extremely happy to have joined the SJA racquetball community.

“These games have been so much fun to both play in and watch with my friends!” Hudson said.

These girls only have a few games left in their must-see season. Their schedule is posted under the “Athletics” tab on the St. Joseph’s Academy website, and the racquetball teams look forward to finishing their season with the support of their SJA community and fans.
