Enjoying The Sports of St. Louis

St. Louis, Missouri is the home to multiple sports teams that all contribute to the overall culture of the city. Between the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, St. Louis City SC, and the St. Louis Battlehawks, this city has no shortage of sports to enjoy.
The St. Louis Cardinals baseball team was founded in 1882, and were originally called the Brown Stockings until 1900, when the name was briefly changed to the “Perfectos”, before being changed to what we know and love today. They have 11 world series wins, the second most in MLB history, with the most recent being in 2011. Fans can attend a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium or watch from home late March through early October.
Freshman Emma Cucchi lists reasons why she loves the St. Louis Cardinals.
“I like baseball in St. Louis because we are home to the Cardinals who have 11 World Series titles. Our stadium has a fun atmosphere, a dedicated fanbase, and great food! Lastly, our team is always striving for excellence which is why I enjoy going to games!” said Emma.
In 1966, the St. Louis Blues hockey team was founded as one of the six NHL expansion teams. Since then, they have been in the playoffs 46 times, Stanley Cup finalists four times, and finally won for the first time in 2019. Their logo, the blue 64th note, is styled to represent the city’s founding in 1764. Fans can attend a game at Enterprise Center or watch from home October through April.
Libby Delaney, a freshman, recalls her childhood Blues experience.
“I love going to Blues games because it’s such a fun family experience. Meeting all the players and experiencing the community is one of my best childhood memories.” Libby said.
The St. Louis City SC soccer team was founded in 2019, and began playing in the 2023 season. That season, they finished first place in the Western Conference with a record of 17-12-5, becoming the first expansion team to win their conference in their debut season. Fans can see a St. Louis City game at Energizer Park February through November.
Addie Waller, a freshman at St. Joe, tells about her experience at the St. Louis City game.
“I enjoyed the city game because all the fans were so engaged in the game and it was a really fun experience.” said Addie.
The St. Louis Battlehawks football team was founded in 2018, and played their first XFL, now called UFL, game in 2020. The Battlehawks have consistently finished in the top of their conference, finishing first in the 2025 season and second in the 2024 and 2023 seasons. Fans can go to The Dome at America’s Center to watch a game March through June.
