During a stressful time in the fall semester, SJA students and faculty enjoyed the day of Friday, October 14 away from the classroom. Many upperclassmen took advantage of it and visited prospective colleges, while others just spent the time catching up on sleep or spending time with family. Although everyone spent this time in different ways, they all agreed that it was much needed and appreciated.

There are many fun places to visit in St. Louis during the fall season. There are plenty of opportunities to go to pumpkin patches, drink pumpkin-spiced beverages, or bake an apple pie.

Sophomore Caroline Joyce took her day off  to complete some of these activities with her friends.

“We wanted to enjoy the fall weather, so my friends and I drove to Eckert’s Farm and went apple picking. We also walked through a maze. I really just wanted to do some fun fall activities since they only happen during this short time in the year,” Caroline said.

Others wanted to travel out of St. Louis, so they took a vacation for the long weekend. Some wanted to spend their time in warmer places, so they visited southern states to enjoy the last few weeks of good weather.

Sophomore Tatum Schwent traveled down to Seaside, Fla. so she could have a relaxing trip near the beach.

“I went with a friend and her dad, and we did so many fun activities. We would get coffee and some smoothie bowls every morning, then walk to the beach,” Tatum said. “It was beautiful weather, mid-80s and no clouds; we were very lucky to have great weather all weekend. Overall, the trip was very successful.”

Although the break was a great opportunity to be active outdoors, it was also nice to get a couple more hours of sleep. Some just enjoyed spending the day resting without worrying about schoolwork.

Sophomore Janie Jackson decided to bond with her family in the comfort of her own house.

“The previous week was really exhausting for me, so I just enjoyed the comfortableness of my house. Some of my siblings also had the day off, so I decided to watch Halloween movies with them,” Janie said.

This was a great chance to get excited for Halloween for Janie. Janie has many siblings, so she was extremely glad that she was able to reconnect with them since they were all busy with school work during that busy month before the end of the first quarter.

The extremely appreciated day off this fall was a successful time for many in the St. Joe community. Everyone completed their own enjoyable endeavor that they chose to complete during the 2022 fall break.
