During Mission Week at SJA, students use every chance they can to raise money for those in need. One night during Mission Week, students who are gifted in music, are given the opportunity to show off their talents while raising money. This year, members from each class participated in the event. The Tuesday night event raise around $1600 for the CSJ missions in Peru, Uganda and local charities.

The emcees for the night were seniors Adeline Dreyer and Audrey Williams. Each act, they created puns regarding the next act or song title. Their jokes entertained the audience all night long.

“Because I was told on short notice that I would be the emcee, Adeline and I decided to wait until two hours before the show to come up with the jokes. It was kind of a spur of the moment type of thing, but I think it turned out really well,” Audrey said.

The night started out on a good note. The first act was a duet by two seniors Kelsey Fox and Emmi Mattern. Towards the end of the act, the two performers were joined by the audience, who helped them sing along to a fan-favorite song.

“Kelsey and I have been for practicing the “This is Me” duet from our favorite movie, Camp Rock, since 7th grade,” Mattern said.  “Since the show was no cut, we decided it was finally our time to shine and get the recognition we deserve.”

Another enjoyed act consisted of St. Joe Frontenac members senior Annie Harter and junior Hannah Kinnison. Unlike most of the other contestants, these singers have had experience performing in front of crowds.

“One of the main reasons I decided to be a part of Music for the Missions was because I loved the idea of the money going to a great cause and helping the senior class,” Annie said. “It was also really fun to sing with one of my best friends and we enjoy any chance we get for the opportunity to perform.”

One of the most memorable acts involved junior Maggie Hannick. She decided to do things a little differently than most of the other performances. Once the music started playing, Hannick began to sing with her mouth closed, emitting a strangled humming sound.

She was soon joined by three other juniors who performed as her back-up dancers. Once Hannick finished singing the Frozen song, “Let it Go,” she was given a standing ovation by the crowd.

The night was topped off by seniors Annmarie Tyson and Emily Kemp singing a High School Musical duet of the song “Everyday.”  Towards the end of their number, they were joined on stage by all the seniors in attendance. The students were able to all join one another and sing on stage at their last Music for the Missions.
