As winter is approaching it is a great time to think about some fun things to do with your friends and family. Here are some winter bucket list ideas to get you started:

  1. Go ice skating. There are many fun places to skate inside and outside including Steinberg Skating Rink which is outside, and Centene Community Ice Center which has both indoor and outdoor skating.
  2. Make and decorate cookies. There is nothing better than having a good stash of sweets.  Making and decorating them is a fun way to bond with family and friends and best of all, eat delicious cookies!
  3. Go sledding.  You are never too old to go sledding! So pray for some nice snow so you are able to embrace your younger selves with a slide down a hill.
  4. Get a snow day. Imagine waking up at 5 am to a phone call telling your parents there is no school and then going back to bed for another 5 hours. Best day ever. So put an orange in the fridge, put a spoon under your pillows, flush ice cubes down the toilet, and wear your pajamas inside out.
  5. Go skiing or snowboarding.  Going to Colorado and seeing those huge, steep mountains with lots of trees nearby may be a little intimidating and includes a long flight/drive to get there.  However, in Wildwood there is a ski resort called Hidden Valley which seems a little more reasonable and much closer to home.

“ I have been skiing since I was little and love to go on ski trips with my family and friends,” junior Maria Mueller said.

  1. Build a snowman. Making snowmen is a fun way to pass time. Will his head fall off first or his arms?

“ I used to have contests with my brothers to see who could make the biggest snowman,” junior Sophie Mittendorf said.

  1. Make hot chocolate.  Everyone loves hot chocolate on a cold day.  Dress up your hot chocolate with flavored marshmallows and use a candy cane as a stir stick.  Yum.
  2. Go shopping. Shopping is a hobby loved by most, especially when going with friends.
  3. Have a snowball fight. The really dense kind of snow is  perfect for creating the best snowballs.   It is always more fun to have a target and even better when it is your sibling.
  4. Try a new food. Who knows, you may love or hate it but at least you know for next time.

These are just a few ideas to get your bucket list started but there are many more ways to have fun with family and friends.  The wintertime may not be your favorite if you don’t like the cold but try some of these ideas and make the best of the season!
