On September 9, St. Joseph’s Academy held a flag dedication ceremony to the military men and women and the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11. This ceremony was sponsored by the Father’s Club and has been in the works for many years. This past 9/11 was the 20th anniversary, it was only fitting for us to remember that tragic day with a flag dedication.

Linda Decker, Director of Institutional Advancement and also an alumna of the class of ‘83, was present for this ceremony.

“Our Father’s Club had the vision for a flagpole by the athletic fields. I enjoyed seeing Kathleen Dolan’ 22, signing the National Anthem on that day after the flag was raised.  Seeing our Frontenac first responders at the event was so very special,” Mrs. Decker said.

The softball team had a community service event for the first responders and the flag dedication took place before their game. All the fall sports and members of the Father’s Club came to gather and support our country. Also, many of the first responders from the Frontenac Police Department attended to remember those who gave their lives during the 9/11 attacks.

Nora Minton,  Events and Sponsorship Coordinator, works closely with the Father’s Club and was also a part of the flag ceremony.

“The Fathers’ Club along with the Athletics Department identified the need for a flagpole for our athletic fields. Through their hard work, dedication, and donation our Fathers’ Club was able to bring this to reality,” she said.
