Imagine living in a world with no phones, computers, or any kind of technology. On Tuesday December 5th, the SJA Angels experienced this kind of day, an “unplugged day.”

SJA President Dr. Regina Moody said we all needed a day to “ unplug our technology and seize the day without the use of cellphones and computers.”

All students were required to either leave Dr. Mooney sent an all school email to prepare students for this day, and then students were required to either leave their phones and computers at home, or turn them in during homeroom.

“The event will provide though an opportunity to reflect as a community on how we can be intentional about choosing to use technology and how quickly our reliance on technology has grown – how social media flashes news at us as we put out into cyber sphere our own images, thoughts, and stories,” Dr. Mooney said.

Many students were not looking forward to this day, as they knew they would have to prepare and print all their work before this day. But, once this day was over, students had an extra community time on Thursday to reflect on this unplugged day.

Many opinions were heard from students, some said this day was a great idea, and that they “actually saw my friends faces for once” and “didn’t get bumped into in the hallway.”

On the contrary, many opinions stated that it was a good idea, but “too close to finals to enjoy unplugging ourselves.” Overall, the students felt this was a good idea, and were able to be grateful for the privilege we have of technology, and being present with the people we are around.
