As we begin our school year at St. Joe, we give a warm welcome to incoming freshmen and returning Angels, offering a glimpse into the diverse and exciting extracurricular activities we have to offer. As we walk through the commons, we are greeted by dozens of club boards with enthusiastic members eager to tell us what their club offers. This is an all-school event, even including teachers all excited about adding more fun and excitement to student life. A computer science teacher at SJA, Ms. Hill, loves Club Week and expresses her yearly excitement.
“It allows people to try things they wouldn’t normally try,” Ms. Hill said.
Clubs here at St. Joe are required to have a teacher to moderate and help the club activities and agendas flow smoothly; this gives teachers the opportunity to get to know some Angels they usually would not have met in their classes. Having teachers moderate these clubs also allows the students to meet new teachers and get more involved with the faculty at St. Joe. Coming to high school can be nerve-racking, especially when you are an incoming freshman with no connections to the community.
A sophomore set to graduate in 2027, An Cao loves how Club Week gives you a taste of community here at SJA.
“Club Week is wonderful because it shows you all the niches and communities here, and it helps you be a pa
rt of the overall community here at St. Joe when you first start at the school,” An said.
When you first begin your school year, all students, especially incoming freshmen, must participate in at least one club to explore our diverse extracurricular activities. It is a great way to make new friends and feel more connected to the extensive community. Coming into St. Joe alone, a common occurrence for many freshmen, can be overwhelming or scary, but joining clubs can help make that adjustment easier and, more importantly, fun.
Maya Twenter, a sophomore at SJA, thinks friends are essential to a school.
“I think Club Week helps our community come together and meet new people no matter what their skill level or certain interest is,” Maya said.
St. Joe’s clubs are where every student can find a sense of belonging, no matter their interests. These clubs help build a strong community of Angels but also provide places for personal growth and skill. These clubs can range from exploring your leadership skills in Youth and Government (YAG) to experiencing new types of music in the Music Club. These clubs help students pursue their personal passions or discover new ones. All of this is possible because of our strong community of Angels.
