Funding For Funderwear

The annual Funderwear event against Cor Jesu took place on January 13, 2026. This year, St. Joe and Cor Jesu set a new record, collecting 200 and 282 pairs of socks and underwear, respectively, to donate to the St. Patrick’s Center. The night was filled with charity, friendly competition, and school spirit as we united to collect resources for the community.
For 22 years, Funderwear has been a yearly tradition that reflects who we are as a school. It is a charitable competition to see which school can collect the most undergarments and raise the most money to benefit St. Patrick Center, an organization dedicated to helping the unhoused in St. Louis.
During the halftime of the varsity basketball game, there is a game of Tug-of-War. St. Joe takes this very seriously. There are tryouts held for this team and only the best participants are selected to be on the team. In addition, during halftime, the number of socks, bras, and underwear raised is revealed. Whoever raises the most earns the infamous “pants” trophy.
This year’s theme was Duck Dynasty. Decked out in camo, St. Joe’s student section was cheering loud and proud the whole night. With the spirit club leading the cheers, the atmosphere was incredible.
Freshman Maeve Rose, shares her experience of her first Funderwear, portraying the excitement and energy Funderwear has.
“It was very fun, the energy was high. I was very shocked about the amount of donations next year, and I am excited to attend again next year!” said Rose.
Gemma Genovese, a freshman, shares her experience also.
“I think we can do much better again next year, but overall it was super duper fun, and we will win next year!” said Genovese.
Genovese illustrates how we can work together next year to bring back the pants, reinforcing the idea of how much fun Funderwear is.
While St. Joe did not win, we put forth our best effort into the basketball games, tug-of-war, and most importantly, the donations. Let’s earn back those pants, SJA!
