What to Watch this Fall
As summer comes to a close, and the autumn season rolls around, many students and faculty are looking forward to the chilly weather and, undoubtedly, the amazing clothes that come with fall. Whether it’s the warm cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, or time spent with family that draws you to the upcoming beautiful season, these top ten movies and tv shows are guaranteed to keep you in all of your fall feels.
The Blind Side
The Blind Side is based off of the remarkable true story of NFL offensive left tackle Michael Oher, as he and his adoptive family navigate through obstacles on and off the field. Why watch it? The football, the feasting, the family, and, of course, the heart-warming concept behind this true story make this movie inspiring. Best Thanksgiving scene of all time.
Little Women
This story follows the story of sour sisters who grow up during the Civil War, and must deal with its aftermath. While their father is away at war, the sisters must fight through the hardships and limits of poverty and social expectations.
Why watch it? With the anticipation of the 2019 remake, you might consider watching the 1994 addition. Though this is a great movie to watch year-round, something about the prairie aesthetic leaves the audience with the autumn feels and encourage time with family this fall season.
Friends, Season 3, Episode 9: “The One with the Football” This episode follows the story of your favorite friend group, as they gather for another Thanksgiving meal. The friends compete in a friendly game of football, only to find rivalry taking over.
Why watch it? No, this is not a movie but it’s still a great Fall-Watch, even if you aren’t a Friends fan. This episode has it all: leaves, football, turkey-everything you need for a quick fall watch. If you’re in need of an autumn binge, all of the Friends Thanksgiving episodes are perfect for fall vibes.
Freaky Friday
A mother and daughter, who could not be more different, must tackle their differences after receiving cryptic fortunes, that have caused them to switch bodies. The two must play the part, as they develop a sense of respect and understanding for each other.
Why watch it? Watch this throwback film for it’s oddly spooky feeling. This is the perfect combination of back to school and Halloween. Definitely one of the best early 2000’s movies, especially at this time of year.
Gilmore Girls, Season 3, Episode 9: “A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving” In this Thanksgiving episode, Rory and Loralei must work to coordinate four different Thanksgivings into their day. The girls work through mother -daughter arguments, teenage relationships and small-town troubles.
Why watch it? Giant cups of coffee, pumpkins, fall decorations, and pilgrims make this episode ideal to watch with a fuzzy blanket and warm apple cider. Get pumped for fall with this small-town T.V. show.
Breakfast Club
Five high school students from different social groups must endure a day of detention, under a strict principle. Each student tells his/her story, changing each other’s vision of him or her.
Why watch it? This is one of the best movies of all time. Get in the back-to-school spirit with this high school student classic starring some of the greatest actors of the ’80s. If you are looking for an edgy, old-school movie with lots of interesting personalities, this one’s for you.
Halloweentown After learning of her supernatural powers, a girl and her siblings travel to “Halloweentown”. The family helps to save the city of other witches and monsters from an evil force inside.
Why watch it? This Disney Channel Halloween film brings back so many memories of Halloween nights and scary stories. Your nostalgia will definitely get the best of you in this Disney Channel, action-packed, Halloween classic.
Gossip Girl, Season 3, Episode 7: “How to Succeed in Bassness” In this episode, Chuck enlists the help of his friends to open his high-profile nightclub. Meanwhile, characters must choose between social expectations and how they feel.
Why watch it? This Halloween episode is full of costumes, parties, and drama. After watching, you will be picking out your Halloween costume and securing holiday plans with friends
Dead Poets Society In Dead Poets Society, a high school English teacher uses unorthodox methods to reach out to his students, who must suffer through the pressures of a conservative elite school. Students must learn to break out of their shells, challenge society’s expectations and show their true character. Why watch it? The gorgeous postcard fall scapes in the background and the back-to-school undertone of this movie make it great for a cozy night in, or a late night watch with homework. If you’re looking for a tear-jerker then this Robin Williams classic is for you.
A Cinderella Story (Disney Channel)
A California teenage girl is forced to work as a janitor and dishwasher in her step-mom’s diner. She looks for a way to make herself cooler after she starts anonymously messaging the most popular football player in her high school.
Why watch it? Definitely one of the most iconic Disney Channel Movies of all time. If you are looking forward to this fall’s football games, then this movie is for you. The California scenery is gorgeous and the costumes are even more so. All-around, it’s an amazing movie for this fall season.
