After three months of studying and wrapping up fall sports, we have experienced our first long holiday break. There is little doubt everyone was thankful for the long week off. As St. Joe students and teachers return from what was hopefully a relaxing Thanksgiving break, some of us may wonder about the different ways we celebrate.
When asking fellow Angels about their traditions, it seemed like most sat around a table with family and friends eating turkey. Many Angels stayed in St. Louis, while others traveled.
Junior KK Dooley has been celebrating Thanksgiving with fellow club field hockey players at a tournament for the past few years.
“My mom and I spent Thanksgiving in a hotel room and playing field hockey,” KK said. Just like KK, many other Angels also traveled for sports to visit out-of-town family members and more.
Additionally, students and faculty may have relaxed in the comfort of their own homes. Sophomore Lucy Griffin is one student who celebrated at home.
“My whole family came over for dinner at my house. We played games and ate turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and more. My favorite Thanksgiving food was mac and cheese,” Lucy said. Lucy, along with many other Angels, celebrated with her family and loved ones in St. Louis.
Besides Thanksgiving Day, students spent the rest of their break catching up on homework and spending time with friends. Sophomore Charlotte Taqui even had a Friendsgiving.
“We started a Friendsgiving tradition last year. The day after Thanksgiving, my friends and I each made a dish. We laughed together at someone’s house playing funny games. The food was devoured,” Charlotte said.
Lastly, many St. Joe students attended MissBash. The dance brought students from all over St. Louis together for a night of dancing, music, and each other’s company. Many loved how DJ Reggie brought spirit and smiles to the gym floor after Mission Week.
The St. Joe community showed their gratitude towards loved ones as we each had time to reflect on all of the amazing things that we should be thankful for. Celebrating in a variety of ways, everyone seemed to enjoy their own special traditions. Above all, the Angels are thankful for St. Joe and all of the other Angels in our community.
Now that we have had time to catch up on sleep, do work, and take time for ourselves, everyone should start thinking about and preparing for our upcoming finals. With a couple of weeks remaining until winter break, the community encourages each other to keep up and work hard!
