November is a bustling time for Catholic high schools in the St. Louis area as they gear up for one of their most important events: Open House. Open House presents families and students in 5th to 8th grade with a personalized tour from St. Joe students and the opportunity to meet with every department.
Mrs. Kara Kelpe, director of enrollment management, experienced her first St. Joe Open House this year.
“This truly is an event that requires everyone’s involvement to be a success!” Mrs. Kelpe said.
Amidst the music, fun events, and supportive community of Angels who make Open House possible, it’s clear that St. Joe is a truly special place to be.
SJA Angel Ambassadors play a huge role in making Open House a success. These students welcome all through the St. Joe doors, give prospective families tours, and are available to answer any questions families may have.
“Having Angel Ambassadors lead tours, show their school pride, and share how and why they enjoy certain classes, clubs, programs, and traditions provides a personal perspective for future Angels to envision how they might spread their own wings and thrive at St. Joe one day!” Mrs. Kelpe said.
In addition to tours, there are student demonstrations and performances that highlight certain programs during Open House. These things show the prospective student all of the different opportunities, clubs, and programs that they could get involved in one day. Without the help of Angel Ambassadors, Angel Parents, and Board Members to welcome families, Open House would not be possible.
Senior Addison Bub has been an Angel Ambassador since sophomore year.
“I once gave a tour to a girl who was a family friend when she was in 8th grade. During her freshman year, I drove her to school, and we formed an even deeper connection,” Addison said.
Open House is not only an event to show all that St. Joe offers, but it also builds connections and a sense of belonging for the students looking for where they are going to spend their next four years.
Addison’s experience is just one of many where St. Joe students are able to get to know the students they gave tours to and maybe become their first friend in high school. This is why Addison loves helping and attending Open House at St. Joe.
“My favorite part of Open House is giving tours and watching the girls get so excited walking through new spaces,” Addison said.
Angel Ambassadors really do see all the goodness that Open House does when they are able to connect with a prospective student. It can be scary to walk into a big high school but making the connections is what matters most.
Open House is so much more than just a showcase of academics, programs, and traditions; it is a celebration of community and connection. From dedicated Angel Ambassadors to supportive Angel Parents and enthusiastic staff, the entire SJA community is able to come together to create a welcoming experience.
For prospective students, Open House is a chance to see themselves thriving in an environment that is filled with support and endless opportunities. As Addison and many others have experienced, the bonds formed during Open House often extend far beyond the initial tour, fostering friendships and a true sense of belonging that defines life at St. Joe.
