Turning the Page into 2022

With the new year comes many new exciting things: new music, new movies, and even new books. Books open a number of possibilities for readers and authors alike. 2021 was an impressive year for new releases, but 2022 is following in those successful footsteps.

Starting on a light note, many Young Adult (YA) authors are keeping their fans on the edge of their seats. Holly Black, known for her series The Cruel Prince, will release her newest book on May 3, Book of Night. This fantasy follows the story of a young, troublesome girl as she discovers and explores a world of magic and shadows.  Of course, world-renowned author Sarah J. Maas also has a new release this year, House of Sky and Breath, which will be the second book in her Crescent City series.

“I’m excited to see the new ideas and expansion to the fantasy world, and to see the fandom expand,” junior Amanda Favazza, Barnes and Noble employee since 2020, said.

The book will hit the market on February 15 of this year, following the familiar story of two characters as they fight for what they know is right.

Sora Neale Hurston, known for her pieces during the Harlem Renaissance, will have her final writings released on January 18. This collection of articles, You Don’t Know us Negroes, addresses the societal problems pressed against the black-American community. In an evaluation of the queer community, Jill Gutowitz will provide insight into ideas of the LGBTQ+ community. This educational, yet comedic book, Girls Can Kiss Now, will release on March 8.

Mrs. Pegi Ferrell said that she “love[s] adaptations of her favorite authors or stories,” so she’s excited for the Pride and Prejudice rewrite Debating Darcy, releasing on April 5 of this year by Sanyantani DasGupta.

These few books are just a handful of what’s coming for the remainder of the year. But if the rest of 2022 follows the example set by the first half, we can only expect more authors to continue filling up our bookshelves. Perhaps, we should all start preparing our bank accounts for the year to come.
