National Letter of Intent Signing
April 30, 2018
On November 8th, eight athletes signed to play in college. Gabby Blossom signed for volleyball to Penn State University, Emily Ferbet for rowing to Loyola Marymount University, Madison Gresham for volleyball to Furman University, Alex Kerr for basketball to Missouri S&T in Rolla, Annie Kreikemeier for swimming to Miami University in Ohio, Claire Ochs for volleyball at Southeast Missouri State University, Grace Renfer for golf to SIU-Carbondale, and Morgan Smith signed for volleyball to Truman State University.
On the day of the signing, the girls were able to wear their college’s shirts and sweatshirts. The whole school recognized them and congratulated them on their accomplishment.
The ceremony was held in the gym, after school. The girls sat at a long table with parents, family, friends, and fellow athletes watching. For many, the best part of the ceremony was the actual signing of the name.
“For me personally, this is a goal I’ve been working towards for a long time so I’m happy for finally making it official,” Grace Renfer comments.
The process to play a competitive sport in college is a long one, which most of the girls started their sophomore year. In their second year of high school, they started requesting college scouts come watch them play a game. When those college representatives came, they girls knew they had to play their best to get contacted by them. After, the girls visited those colleges and saw if it was the right fit. Many also participated in camps and meet the team.
Alex Kerr shares, “It was long journey, I spent the majority of my summers traveling to different AAU exposure basketball tournaments. I had the opportunity to meet and play with a lot of different people, but I am glad the process is done.”
St. Joe is very proud of all the girls who signed to their perspective school, and offer them good luck in the years to come. Good job girls!
