Juniors Conquer ACT at St. Joe

March 7, 2018

St. Joe offered the ACT for juniors on Tuesday, February, 27.  The ACT began at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. It did not provide the writing portion. Students will receive their results in a few weeks.

The proctors were the guidance and college counselors, Mrs. Donna Videmschek, Ms. Mary Alice Hennessy, Mrs. Kristen Versen and Mrs. Sarah Modde.

In a survey of 72 juniors, 75 percent said they have already taken the ACT at least once before. Also, 64 percent said that they prepared with a tutor or a class for this ACT. The majority of the 72 juniors said that math was the hardest section and English was the easiest.

Maria Haro was preparing for the test with an ACT class in hopes of eventually getting her score to a 30.

“I’m just pushing myself because I’ve seen the result that other people have received,” Maria said. “I would like to have the same high results for myself.”

St. Joe is the first all-girls private school to offer the ACT, with Vianney being the first all-boys school. The state of Missouri offered a free ACT to juniors at public schools, and Mrs. Videmschek thought it would help St. Joe students if it was offered here. She reached out to the ACT and asked if St. Joe could host it for free too and was given permission to do so.

“It is meant to feel more relaxed in a comfortable environment that the students are used to,” Mrs. Videmschek said.
