On December 3rd, the wonderful Frontenac Voices, chorus classes, and handbell ensemble displayed their talents for all to hear at the Christmas with the Angels concert, which was preceded by an art show in the commons.
Each year, the concert is great kickoff to the Christmas season and attracts a large crowd; this year, the crowd nearly filled up the entire theater.
The art show displayed works of art created by students from each grade and from the variety of art classes provided by St. Joe. Photographs, paintings, and clay bowls were spread out in the commons, and guests eager to enjoy the concert could browse the art pieces before and after the show.
The concert in the theater began with the beautiful voices of the Advanced chorus enthusiastically singing “Gloria.” They continued with “Mary’s Lullaby to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” It was truly lovely to hear and everybody who participated in the concert did a spectacular job.
Every Christmas season, St. Joe presents the Christmas With the Angels concert to members of the St. Joe community to spread Christmas spirit by performing a variety of Christmas songs. Maggie Kutz, a junior, had a solo in “Angels Sing Glory”; Sara Frautschi and Lucy Andrew performed solos in the “Silver Bells” Medley, and Annie Harter helped finish off the show with a solo in “Christmas on Broadway.”
Students and guests look forward to the annual concert.
“I always love the Christmas concert because it is a great way for the classes to showcase what they have been working on while getting everyone into the Christmas spirit,” sophomore Mary Hayes said.
Junior Hannah Kinnison agrees.
“The Christmas concert is one of my favorite parts of the whole year! I love getting to sing with my sisters and make memories along the way,” Hannah said. “What better way to get people in the Christmas spirit than by singing?!”
Crowd-goer Madeline Gloriod thought the concert was “fantastic and a great way to kick off the Christmas season.”
And unlike other St. Joe theater events, some crowd members got to be a part of the performance! When it was time to sing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” any St. Joe alumni who had been chorus members in high school got to go on stage with the Angels and sing it along with them.
The artwork presented was beautiful to look at and the Christmas melodies brought glee to everyone’s ears.
Art teacher Ms. Katie Schaefer said that all current art students participated in the gallery in the commons. Many different mediums were used including: charcoals, acrylics, watercolors, clay, 3D printing, pencils and photography.
Visitors at the show and faculty voted on the top pieces and the winners were: junior Caroline Cutler -Best in Show, freshman Kyla Smith -2nd Place, junior Elizabeth Burke – 3rd Place, junior Kara Pruett – Honorable Mention.
Overall, the Christmas With the Angels concert and art show was a terrific event for the St. Joe community and definitely helped spread holiday cheer.
