SJA and CBC score a touchdown for Make-A-Wish
October 16, 2017
The second annual Powderpuff game was held last Friday, September 29th at CBC High School. Seniors Kaylen Rice, Claire Shackleford, and Annmarie Tyson, with help from student ambassadors from CBC, planned and organized the all-girl football game that raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Whether students played in the Powder Puff game, cheered from the sidelines, or made a donation, girls from all grades participated,.
Each grade had a strong showing of girls, and each grade represented a team. Powder Puff is a fundraiser, but it also serves as an awesome bonding experience for the students.
“It was a lot of fun and it really let me get to know more girls,” freshman Miley Savage said.
The freshman played the sophomores, and the juniors played the seniors. The winners of both games played against each other in the finals to compete for the championship and trophy.
The seniors and the sophomores both advanced, with the seniors winning.
“My favorite part was when I scored the game winning touchdown, but most of all I loved my team, because they all were very supportive and played their hearts out,” senior Taylor Adler said.
The game raised money for The Make-A-Wish Foundation which works with kids who have life threatening illnesses. This organization lets kids choose a wish, whether that be a vacation or a new toy, and works to grant it.
All the money collected from the Powderpuff fundraiser this year will benefit a girl named Memphis. Memphis’ dream is to swim with sea turtles in Cancun. The 10 year old suffers from a cardiac condition, and underwent open heart surgery last May. Memphis still remains strong and confident for her recovery.
After the powderpuff game, a tailgate was held for the CBC football game against Jefferson City High School. There was a taco truck and a snow cone truck, as well as bouncy houses and inflatables for fans. All this led up to the big homecoming football game. At the end of the night, CBC beat Jeff City.
